This quiz report allows you to get view of a quiz attempt that is formatted for easy printing. This can either be a blank attempt for students to write in their responses, if they cannot attempt the quiz online, or a review of a finished quiz attempt.

This 'report' is actually a tool like the standard Response quiz report, but which lets Staff generate a paper version of quizzes and create attempts
for Students. The version printed can be

  • a blank attempt for students to write in their responses if they cannot attempt the quiz online,
  • review of a a finished quiz attempt with the feedback visible, or
  • a print-out of the quiz with all the correct responses filled in.

This report also has a screen where a teacher can enter responses on behalf of the student, if they have returned a completed attempt sheet.

This plugin was created to support the work that the Open University does to support students in secure environments.

There is also slightly primitive support for downloading all the attempts at a quiz, using the helper script from https://github.com/moodleou/save-answersheets.

Potential privacy issues

There are no real issues within this plugin. The only thing to be aware of is that this plugin makes it easy for people with administration access to take data (student quiz attempts) out of Moodle. How that personal information is then protected is beyond our control.

    Approval issue created: CONTRIB-8144

    Greetings, and thank you very much for this very useful plugin! This is one important part of the multi-piece puzzle needed to automate the reporting of individual quiz attempts (showing all questions and answers) into an email, and archiving as a PDF into a Sharepoint document library for auditing purposes. Well done!

    I installed the pluggin on my site and it shows this error message:
    Exception - Return value of quiz_answersheets\report_display_options::parse_user_info_visibility() must be an instance of quiz_answersheets\void, none returned

    How can I solve it?

    Which PHP version are you using? This plugin probably needs 7.1 or something.

    @ Tim, thanks for your help. I've made an upgrade to my PHP and the plugin is running on.
    So, I have another question. When I try to print the answered quizzes, the print page doesn't show all questions with their correction mark. When there is an open question (in which the student must type a text) in the middle of multiple choice questions, the questions that come after the open question have neither the correct answer nor the correction mark.
    There is a way to correct this issue?

    Looks like you have found a bug with that Essay thing. We are working on a fix.

    Thanks for this highly useful plugin. Also requesting an additional feature: provision for sending the question papers directly to the emails of the students

    Hi there, I new to Moodle. I already installed this on my personal Moodle (localhost) 3.11.2+.
    Could you please give more detailed information on how to use this plug-in?
    Do I need to assign students for the quiz before I print our the quiz?

    Hi @ Hung. Yes, we built this plug-in more for tutors to print out an empty sheet for specific students in a class who couldn't take the test online. Or for exporting one or more already-answered attempts for printed marking. Both are rare use-cases at the OU, but they do occasionally arise.

    @Chris Nelson
    Hello Chris, thank you for this wonderful plugin. Is it compatible with the latest moodle? Do you schedule an update for this plugin?

    @synnac song,
    Thanks for the kind words (and the kudos goes to Tim and the IT developments team smile). I'm not aware of Moodle 3.11.x requiring any changes for this plugin, but good point - we don't state M3.11 on the plugin page. I'll check.

    @synnac song,
    Apologies, we have not formally tested this against the current version of Moodle in its default themes. It is /quite likely/ that there's no issue with using it on M3.11, but we cannot guarantee it (we are using M3.11 ourselves, but with a custom theme).

    In the UK we have some UCU strikes coming up, so it is unlikely we will be able to properly check this plugin soon (and by that time, M4.0 will be released, so it would be more efficient for us to wait and check both versions of Moodle at the same time).

    Does this tool allow students to download their own quiz attempts and feedback?
  • Thu, Feb 17, 2022, 8:02 PM
    Hi @Assessing to Criteria,
    We haven't designed this plugin for student use. This plug-in is to help teachers/administrators that need small-scale paper production of quizzes, and where they then need to input a specific students' response back into the system (e.g. a student needs to complete a test on paper due to accessibility reasons, or the student is in a secure environment that prohibits computer use).

    This is open-source, so anyone in the Moodle Community is welcome to create a way for students to download their attempts with feedback as PDFs (or contribute that as an optional quiz-level setting in this project).
