The Collaborative Learning Environment (CLE) is the online learning environment used by all UCSF schools, graduate medical education, and some administrative departments for delivering curricular content, instruction, and training. The CLE provides critical services which are an integral part of the University’s instructional activities. The four professional schools create an online version in the CLE of every course they teach. The CLE is also being used by a wide variety of campus groups and departments to support collaborative activities. The CLE consists of several core systems including a learning management system (Moodle), a curriculum management system (Ilios), a video hosting platform (Kaltura), and several other components. In addition, other key services integrate with the CLE including the Registrar’s student information system, the lecture capture system (Mediasite) managed by Educational Technology Services, external file repositories (Box, etc.), and other systems. The CLE hosts thousands of UCSF courses and averages thousands of unique users per month.
